The Library provides HDR students with many resources and services to support their research. These include information literacy training, personal consultations, and document delivery to obtain items not held at QUT.

The following sites provide useful information to HDR students.

  • Getting started:
    • AIRS: Advanced Information Retrieval Skills Program
This program aims to ensure that researchers can use information systems effectively to meet their current and future research needs. AIRS is offered to postgraduate research students as a twelve contact hour, 4 credit point course (IFN001) and can be taken in face-to-face mode or the new online interactive tutorial. Both the face-to face and online modes of delivery are facilitated by a professional librarian.
    • Research Support
An overview page. Lists resources for researchers provided by the Library. Also lists Library services - eg, document delivery for items we don't hold, borrowing from other libraries and so on.
    • Finding information for research
Covers everything you need to start your research - search strategies, using databases, Internet resources, find theses, evaluating information.
    • Subject Guides in Education
The perfect starting point for research in Education! These guides list key reference sources, core journals, databases and Internet sites.
    • Databases for Education
      Key databases are recommended.
    • Information on Research Methodologies
Includes resources on qualitative and quantitative methods and specific methodologies, eg phenomenography, action research.
    • PILOT: Your Information Navigator
      An introductory online tutorial.

  • Keeping organised and on track:
    • Library EndNote Page
EndNote is bibliographic management software. Obtain the software (free), find online tutorials or book for training. An essential tool for postgraduates and researchers.
    • Learningfast
QUT students and staff must register to use (no charge). Teach yourself Microsoft Office applications with free self-paced, interactive tutorials and downloadable manuals. Highly recommended.
Try it for help with MS Word - styles, tables of contents, indexes and master documents!
