The Centre for Learning Innovation aims to conduct research in the following focus areas of education:

- Cognition and creativity
- Indigenous capacity building
- Scholarship of teaching in Higher Education
- Advancement of knowledge in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths
- Cultural transformations
- Creative Workforce
- Development and disability
These focus areas reflect both the research expertise and recent research achievements of members of the Centre, and the broader focus of Faculty research, which has knowledge work as its unifying component.
